Parents,
several schools in our area had a program on Cyber-Dangers. I am
taking the liberty to link us to their notes and websites from the
program. It has fantastic information, and I know they would want
all parents to benefit from it.

Internet
Alert!!!!!!!!! A
new federal law states that when you annoy someone on the Internet,
you must disclose your identity. Here's the relevant language (from
http://news.zdnet.com/2100 1009_22-6024695.html:)
"Whoever...utilizes
any device or software that can be used to originate telecommunications
or other types of communications that are transmitted, in whole
or in part, by the Internet...without disclosing his identity and
with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten, or harass any person...who
receives the communications...shall be fined under title 18 or imprisoned
not more than two years, or both."
Parents,
last year I gave you some important information about MySpace.com
and FaceBook.com. These are extremely popular with kids, but have
many inherent risks. My personal recommendation is to not allow
your child access to these. Of course, you must make the decision.
I am listing several articles you might want to read:
Parents:
USA Today (Thursday, March 9, 2006) had a great article titled,
"What you say online could haunt you." Schools, universities,
and employers are scrutinizing "MySpace" and "Facebook"
postings. Kids are paying the price for talking inappropriately
and posting inappropriate pictures. PLEASE talk to you child about
this. Nothing is confidential on the web. Not only are predators
using these websites (abductions), but also futures universities
and employers.
What a student does or says in middle school could have
dire consequences when applying for colleges or work.
Speaking
of safety: Parents please do not have DUST OFF
in your house. It is a can of compressed air and a propellant, R2,
used to blow dust off a computer. It gives kids a slight high for
about 10 seconds IF IT DOESN'T KILL THEM! You usually die as you
are breathing it in or within a couple ofseconds. Unfortunately,
there is not much warning for parents to be aware of. There is no
chemical reaction, no strong odor. However, one child complained
of his tongue hurting several days before he died. It probably did.
The propellant causes frostbite. This new high is called dusting.
Articles
on how to raise you Middle School child.
Every
family with children always has questions about how to deal with
issues. Middle schoolers also are trying to figure out who they
are and where they belong. It is a very crucial time in a child's
life. Survival Skills for Healthy Familiesis a good source of information for parents and kids. Please
