Countdown: 9 days

Senator Bob Corker dropped in at the Founders' Fund "Fun Day" where principal Eddie Gravitte took Mr. Corker and a bunch of mountain kids on a tour of the new school.

Parents of 8th grade students,

Please remember to order your 8th Grade Recognition Ceremony DVD. This will be a fitting gift for the student and a lasting memory of Signal Mountain Middle School. The cost is $27.00 per DVD. Please make checks out to S.M.M.S. PTA by Friday, May 16th. Mrs. Raines will accept orders.

Congratulations to the following girls for advancing to the State Golf Tournament: Hailey Davidson, Sarah Dolmovich, and Andi Fisher. Good luck!!!!

Congratulations to Jessica Keane and Kylila Tucker. They won first place in doubles. Natalie Palmer then went on to win second place in singles! Way to Go!

Reuse, Reduce, and Redistribute your gently-used SMMS Gear
Your donation of vintage polo shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, khaki pants and shorts is an earth friendly way to re-wear clothing that might otherwise be discarded! Drop off your clean vintage SMMS gear in the donation box in the School lobby. Donations will be collected until the end of the school year.

Remember to vote on the Signal Mountain
Middle High School Website concerning our school start times.

Moving Help Needed.
Mr. Cirlot will need help packing up the band room to move to
the new building on 06/13/ 08 @ 9 AM.

Student and parent volunteers are needed. Please e-mail Kim Smith, kimnnooga@aol.com or call 886-7574 if you can help.

Volunteers Needed!!!!! Pack it up! The move is on! All SMMS books, teaching materials, equipment, band instruments, etc. need to be packed and labeled by May 23rd. (Last day of school is May 21st). We need LOTS of volunteers to help with packing; at least two volunteers per teacher would be very helpful. Packing will begin May 5 and go through May 23. Specific dates and times will be arranged between the individual staff members and parent volunteers. Please contact Debbie Matthews if you can help (886-3647 or matt3647@comcast.net)

Attention Parents of 8th Graders:

The 8th Grade Recognition Ceremony will be held at the Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, May 20th, at 7:00 p.m. An 8th Grade Celebration will follow the ceremony at the Signal Mountain Golf and Country Club. This will be a joyous occasion for our students and their families!

A letter with important information pertaining to the 8th Grade Recognition Ceremony, will be mailed to parents in May, so please look for this. Life Productions will be videotaping the ceremony. A DVD of the ceremony/video presentation of the class, may be purchased for $27.00. An order form will be included with the parent letter.

Invitations will be sent home with students, the first week in May.

If there are any questions, regarding the 8th Grade recognition Ceremony, please contact Joan Snider at 886-6426 or Elisa Templeton at 886-5676.

The Founder's Fund has written a brag book about SMMHS. Click here for details.

Confused about what International Baccalaureate is? Mr. Barlew has written an excellent arcticle. Mr.Barlew's take on the IB Program.

ATTENTION ALL WALKERS: Everyone must walk down Ault Road. Complaints of all the walkers have been raining in from parents, so we are stopping all walking down Mayer and Hampton Road. The police have been notified of this, and anyone caught walking down those two roads will be given a citation to court.

Students with lunch charges of $10 or more will eat cheese sandwhiches and milk until it is paid off. NOTHING ELSE, not even PB&J, WILL BE ALLOWED TO BE CHARGED! After May 1, the cafeteria can only take cash or money orders to pay for meals, a la carte, or to add to account.

FYI - Many people have asked us the difference between giving to the Mountain Education Fund and the Founders' Fund. Click here for more information.

SAFETY NOTICE . . . If your child is a walker, he/she should be walking down Ault Road (on the sidewalk) and not on Hampton Road. Many students walking to businesses take the Hampton Road route. We have had many calls from citizens who tell us they almost hit some children. The students have a tendency to spread out rather than walk single file. (Can you imagine?) In addition, there is no sidewalk. They can still get to "downtown" Signal Mountain, by walking down Ault Road on the safe sidewalk.

SAFETY FIRST! Speed limit during school hours is 15 miles per hour; this includes Hampton and Mayer Roads.

Homework Hotline Teachers are available to assist students Monday - Thursday, 4 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Call 209-7755. Also, I have begun adding useful websites under Academic page. Even though it may be under a Teacher category, it still may have great information for a student. If one doesn't work or if you have a suggestion, please email me at bryant_r@hcde.org.

Pictures: Parents, if you email me pictures in jpeg format, I can put some of them on the website. Please do not send too many at once as I can't preview all of them. If you'll limit the selection for me, it would be a great help. My email is bryant_r@hcde.org.

SCHOOL HOURS: Parents, remember, our school building does not open until 6:45 a.m. Please do not leave your child unattended before then.We dismiss at 2:25 p.m. Your child needs to be picked up on time after school and after school events. A child this age still becomes nervous when not picked up on time or, worse yet, wanders off campus.
Parents: In the past, we have had some excellent material on cyber safety and raising middle school children. These articles are at the bottom of the PTA page. They are well worth the time to read!
SAFETY NOTE: Parents, we have several students with nut allergies. Please be sure the snacks you send to school don't have nuts. If something is made with nut oils, please mark it. Thanks for your help in keeping our children safe.

In order to offer further protection to our students, I will no longer put a picture with names on the website. I will put either a picture or the names. If you would prefer that your child's picture or name never appears on our website please notify me by clicking on this link.
